As a special commitment of his father, Marin started playing tennis as soon as tennis courts became available in hometown. Noted by local coaches, he then moved to Italy (Sanremo) in 2004 with a strong recommendation from countryman Goran Ivanišević, and started working with Goran's former trainer Bob Brett. For this reason, still today Marin who loves football is a supporter of Italian Serie A team Milan. He has won 8 ATP titles (latest, London Queen's 2012, d. Nalbandian by code violation and Umag 2012) and reached SF at AU Open 2012 (l. to Murray). In majors, he did QF at US Open 2012, and R4 at French Open (2010) and Wimbledon (2012).
