When 16, she moved to Scottsdale (AZ) to train with financial help from a mother's friend--wife of a NHL hockey top player Nikholay Khabibulin. In 2010 she was about to take a break from tennis to get back to studies. Her grandmother convinced her to continue playing. Became WTA #1 after winning AU Open in 2012. She finished runner-up at US Open 2012 losing to S. Williams. Other significant achievements are two slam titles in mixed doubles (US Open w/ countryman Mirnyi, French Open 2008 w/ Bob Bryan). She also won the singles bronze medal and mixed doubles gold medal (w/ Mirnyi) at London 2012. Vika has a strong admiration for Roger Federer.
